Printing ink or lacquer is dried or hardened on sheet material by radiation from a tubular lamp. Grippers which move the sheet across the focussed line of radiation stand out beyond the gripped sheet edge. To cover this area, the lamp is arranged at a suitable angle to the plane of the sheet material motion. This prevents the formation of a shadow area by the grippers where the ink or lacquer is not satisfactorily dried or hardened. A mercury vapour lamp (14) with an elliptical reflector (15) produces ultraviolet light in a beam focussed along the line (16). The sheet (12) with the printing ink or coating is pulled along the table (11) in the direction of arrow A by grippers (13). The grippers consist of a tube (33) with a friction pad (31) against which the sheet is held by fingers (32). Normally, the shadow area D would be inadequately treated. The angular disposition of the lamp prevents this.
|
