A mixt. is made contG. wood fibres, chips, shavings, or wool, plus cement, and part of the required water; and the mixt. is fed onto a conveyor pallet acting as an underlay for forming a mat of the mixt. The remaining water required is fed into the mixt. while the latter is falling onto the conveyor pallets, esp. via water spraying nozzles. The pref. plant uses a row of conveyor belts to feed the mixt. onto travelling pallets so a mat is formed consisting of a bottom-, middle- and top- layer; and the mixt. streams falling off the conveyor belts travels between transverse nozzles feeding water onto the mixt. The mat is then pressed and dried. By adding the water in several stages of mat formation, the mixt. does not stick to dosers and conveyors used prior to forming the mat.
