A contents service providing system and method using a service relay are provided to enable abstraction of a service unit between an information provider and a user to allow intelligent agents to correctly search information the user desires. A contents service providing system includes a service storage unit(400) storing service information on available service and service request information of a user, a service request unit(100) which forms a service search inquiry, transmits the service search inquiry, receives result information with respect to the inquiry, calls a service based on the received result information and provides a contents service corresponding to the service to the user, a service relay(200) for providing information required to call the service to the service request unit, and a service providing unit(300) for providing service proxy information to the service relay and providing the contents service to the service request unit.
