1342612 Liquid detergent compositions COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 8 Oct 1971 [28 Oct 1970] 47010/71 Heading C5D A heavy duty liquid detergent composition, which is phosphate-free, comprises by wt.: (A) 8 to 22% of a water-soluble anionic synthetic organic detergent which is a salt of formula Ro(C 2 H 4 O) n So 3 M wherein R is C 10 -C 18 fatty alkyl, n is 2 to 6 and is from 1/5 to 1/3 the number of carbon atoms in R and M is a saltforming ion; (B) 10-30% of nitrilotriacetate builder; (C) 5-15% of a hydrotrope; (D) 3 to 10% of a water-soluble silicate; and (E) 25 to 70% of an aqueous solvent medium. (A) is biodegradable and R therein is preferably a straight chain alkyl, which may be mixed C 12 - C 15 alkyls and contain not more than 10% branched alkyl; (A) may be in the form of an alkali metal, NH 4 , C 1 -C 4 alkylamine or C 1 -C 4 alkanolamine salt. (B) is preferably the trialkali metal or mono-, di- or tri-ethanolamine salt and may be replaced in part by salts of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid. Compounds (C) are alkali metal, NH 4 and alkylamine or alkanolamino salts of C 1 -C 4 alkyl benzene sulphonates. Compound (D) is an alkali metal silicate wherein Na 2 O : SiO 2 is from 1 : 1À5 to 1 : 2À5. Optional ingredients are (F) other anionic surfactants especially 0À5 to 5% of an alkali metal soap, (G) non-ionic and amphoteric surfactants, (H) 0À4 to 1% optical brighteners especially mixtures of cotton and polyester amide brighteners, (I) other conventional additives. The aqueous medium is water to which ethanol, ethylene glycol, glycerol or ethers of diethylene glycol may be added. The pH is 9 to 13. |
