The heat exchanger has a main tube 5 surrounded by water from which heat is to be transferred to a cold heat exchange medium flowing through the main tube 5. The main tube 5 contains a number of concentric tubes 9-12 substantially parallel to the main tube, and the heat exchange medium is intended for being introduced into the innermost tube 9 under pressure, and the tubes are provided with end walls 16, 19 placed in such a way that the medium is brought to flow back-and-forth in the interspaces between the concentric tubes 9-12 and to finally flow in the interspace between the outermost tube 12 and the main tube 5, whereby it is attained that the heat exchange medium succeeds in being somewhat heated before reaching the latter interspace, such that freezing of the main tube 5 is avoided. <IMAGE>
