The present addn. consists of increasing the dimensions cold, of the refractory linings in relation to those of the boxes, so that the tightening of the bolts bringing together the raised edges of contiguous boxes cannot be done without compressing strongly the flanged parts perpendicular to the rear faces of the boxes. The principal patent, describes a furnace arch of modular elements of rectangular or square form. Each modular element comprises a box in steel sheet capable of being assembled with neighbouring boxes by bolts passing through holes in the raised edges and capable of compressing also flanged parts of outer layers of high thermal resistance held between the raised edges of contiguous modular elements. Instead of the flanged parts of outer layers of high heat resistance being compressed between the raised edges of contiguous modular elements, the intermediate layers of ceramic fibres or the rigid insulations in sheets compressed between the boxes and the outer layers of high heat resistance should be protected by a supplementary layer, of thickness equal to that of the layer of high heat resistance, between the opposite flanged parts of that layer in contact with the boxes, to fill the space between these flanged parts and between the boxes and the rear part of the refractory lining. The strong local compression of the sheets of high thermal resistance prevents any heat loss to the raised edges of neighbouring boxes at the joints between adjacent modular elements.
|
