In the fibre feed system to an open-end spinning unit, there are two rollers to brake up the silver, where one roller is clad with an elastic material, and the other roller has an engraved and structured surface. The interrupted surface of the second roller is engraved with additional grooves. These pass at angles to the main grooves and to the output ends of the roller. The design ensures that the silver is broken down into fibres so that they are fed separaely to the spinning chamber, giving an even and consistent yarn spun from long fibres.
