<p>Apparatus for and method of discharging a predetermined quantity of highly viscous liquid such as a self-preserving syrup or concentrate mixed with water. The apparatus includes a storage tank for the highly viscous liquid, a mixing chamber for mixing the highly viscous liquid with water, a pump for pumping predetermined quantities of the highly viscous liquid into the mixing chamber, a dispensing pipe for discharging mixed liquid and water from the mixing chamber, a water feed pipe for feeding water under pressure into the mixing chamber in alignment with the dispensing pipe, means for passing water under pressure through the water feed pipe, flexible means for cutting the water under pressure off, and timers for individually timing the time of operation of the pump for the viscous fluid and the cutting off of the water with the flexible means. In operation the highly viscous liquid is fed into the mixing chamber by the pump, water under pressure is passed through the water feed pipe into the mixing chamber and the combined viscous liquid and water is passed out of the dispensing pipe. After a predetermined time the water is cut of with the flexible means o that the water is withdrawn a predetermined distance into the water feed pipe. The pumping of the viscous liquid is continued for a short time to place a plug of the viscous liquid into the mixing chamber and over the beverage dispensing pipe. In accordance with the invention the end of the discharge pipe aligned with the end of the water feed pipe defines a suction gap and is beveled with regard to the horizontal to form a wedge-shaped gap.</p> |
