<p>A strap forming apparatus (10) includes a track (14) for guiding a travelling metal strip to form a closed overlapping loop. One or more segments of the track (14) define a groove (40) through which the metal strip travels. The apparatus (10) also includes a plurality of members (16) spaced along the track (14) to momentarily support and contact the metal strip in the track (14) and a plurality of lifting elements (18) spaced along the track (14). The lifting elements (18) are actuable to lift the strap vertically from the track (14) when the overlapping strip has been fastened to form a strap.</p> |
