1453521 Curable unsaturated polymer compositions DOW CHEMICAL CO 4 Feb 1974 [5 Feb 1973] 05066/74 Heading C3P A curable composition comprises a mixture of (a) an unsaturated polyester, an unsaturated polymeric monomer obtained by reacting a polyepoxide with a terminally unsaturated monocarboxylic acid or with a dicarboxylic acid half ester of a hydroxyalkylacrylate or methacrylate, or a mixture thereof; (b) at least one monomer copolymerizable with (a); (c) a polymeric low profile additive and (d) a stabilizer which is a block copolymer satisfying the formula or where B x is a polymeric block derived from a monoalkenyl aromatic monomer, a conjugated diene monomer or a mixture thereof, and x and y are at least 25. In the examples, components (a) used are a reaction product of methacrylic acid with an epoxy novolac resin and a glycidyl polyether of bisphenol A, a propylene glycol/ maleic anhydride polyester, a propylene glycol/ fumarate polyester, and other similar unsaturated polyesters. The stabilizers (d) used are polyethylene oxide/polystyrene block polymers and polyethylene oxide/polystyrene/polyethylene oxide block polymers. Useful lower profile additives are polybutadiene, butadiene/styrene block or random polymers, butadiene/styrene/ butadiene block polymers, polystyrene, high impact polystyrene, poly-(vinyl toluene) and poly-(chlorostyrene). Monomers (b) used are vinyl toluene, styrene, chlorostyrene, methylmethacrylate, vinyl acetate and a mixture of styrene and acrylonitrile. |
