Vernier caliper with comparator amplifying system - has linear movement related to sine of ramp angle

The ramp in place of rack and pinion on verner caliper has mechanical or electronic comparator amplifying system where linear movement is related to the sine of the angle. The caliper comprises a fixed part (1) in which an oblique slot (7) is formed. A slid (2) assembly retained by a cover (6) and the fixed part has a slot (8) allowing a finger (3) to move in it without play. The finger is driven by a pin (4) which enters the slot with limited play. A spring (5) maintains contact without play to allow perpendicular movement of finger w.r.t. longitudinal movement of slide.
