A practising mute for brass wind instruments enables the instrumentalist to hear himself without disturbing other people. The mute is secured to the bell of the instrument and has a perforated inlet plate. Foam material fills the space above the plate. A microphone and amplifier, together with a battery that is switched in, are located above the foam. Sound absorbent material is packed into a lid retained by spring couplings. The player hears his notes through headphones. For ensemble playing, each player has a pair of interconnected headphones.
|
