The cut-off valve for hot gases is suitable for the exhaust system of an underwater craft. It is formed as a slide valve with a hollow piston (10) in a housing (1). The valve housing inner space on the hollow piston side turned away from the hot gases is permanently filled with water from a supply tank. The valve housing (1) has a water cover (3) around its outside, and has holes which, when the valve is fully opened, are located opposite holes in the cover of the hollow piston valve. The valve housing (1) has several ring-shaped holes or slots on its periphery which, when the valve is opened, are freed by its cover (10) and issue into a ring channel (7) with a connection (8) to the exhaust gas conduit.
