<p>Non-water soluble liquids which adhere to the inside of hollow fibres, to be used for artificial kidneys, from the process of mfr., have to be removed very thoroughly. This is done by rinsing with a low-boiling fluorochlorohydrocarbon, followed by air drying at room temp. or =50 degrees C. The drying temp. is now low enough not to affect the filtration and diffusion properties of the fibre walls. The rinsing liq. can be easily reconditioned by distn. and any residual traces have a better biological compatibility than alcohol. The hollow fibres are laid in the housing of the artificial kidney through which a chlorofluorocarbon is circulated. The preferred fluid is a 3-chloro-3-fluoro-ethane. After completion of this phase, air of max. 50 degrees C is blown through or the rinsing fluid is evaporated by applying a vacuum. This is specially suitable for fibres which are less sensitive to drying out.</p> |
