The implant is of the type which comprises a body of a metal which is acceptable to the tissue of the gums. The area of the body to contact jaw bone surface is coated with a biologically stable and a acceptable matrix of a polymer filled with inclusions of a calcium phosphate prepn. which will be absorbed progressively into living tissue. The metal body has a cross-section corresp. with that of the implant and is provided with a mounting for the attachment of a bridge, crown etc. The calcium phosphate prepn. is in the form of fine particles baked together. The body is pref. shaped as a stirrup which is precision fitted on to a machined area on the surface of jaw bone. The calcium phosphate prepn. is pref. based in sintered, tricalcic phosphate in globules enrobed with slightly absorbable, tetracalcic phosphate. Used as surgical implant to hold dental super-structures such as crowns, bridges etc. The implant is easy and inexpensive to fit. The provision for bone tissue to grow into implant cavities ensures positive keying to jaw bone without deep surgery. |
