The adhesion binding machine is for binding sheet stacks with hot glue. The binding process includes the movement of a carriage equipped with a clamping device from an inserting station to a removal station in a longitudinal direction of the material being bound. The carriage also moves over a glue application roler and the elements carrying the carriage are positioned behind the glue application roller when viewed from the servicing side. The clamping device for the purpose of removal of the binding material may be opened towards the servicing side or in the opposite direction towards the glue application station in such a way that the binding material can be removed in a plane extending mainly parallel to the bound spine.
