<p>An X-ray contrast medium contg. 3'-deoxy-3-iodo-glucose (I) is new. The medium is formulated as an aq. soln. for injection into the intraspinal, intraventricular or intrasubarachinoidal spaces, or as injection solns. for the liver, kidney, salivary ducts, pancreatic duct, or other arteries and veins. Also new are diagnostic compsns. contg. (I) labelled with radioactive iodine, pref. 123-, 125- or 131-iodine. (I) is metabolised the same way as glucose, so labelled (I) is useful for determining speed of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion. Unlabelled (I) has high X-ray absorption and its LD-50 is >10 g/kg so has no side effects when used as contrast medium.</p> |
