The laminar stator (or motor) for an electrical machine is made by winding a profiled strip into a tightly-packed helix. The strip has slots pre-cut into it for the winding andis then rolled over into a helix. The strip is punched from a flat metal tape. Two strips (5) are obtained from one width of tape. Before the strips are separated they are profiled so that the tape's outer edges (3) are thicker than its centre (2).
