Acid gases, especially H 2 S and CO 2 , are removed from gas mixtures, e.g. natural gas, by 2-stage contact with a solvent mixture of polyethylene glycol, dimethyl ethers containing 3-9 ethylene oxide units in the molecule solvent used in the first stage containing >1% and that in the second stage <1% by weight of acid gas. The combined rich solvent bottoms are flashed twice, first at a relatively high pressure and then at a lower pressure, effluent gas from the first flashing being returned to the process. The major proportion of the solvent from the second flashing is returned to the process for use in the first stage, while a minor proportion is stripped, e.g. with air, and returned for use in the second stage.</p> |
