<p>Fungi, bacteria and viruses are controlled by the application of a 2,3-dihydro-1,4-dithiine 1,1,4,4-tetroxide of formula (I):- (where R1-R4 are H, 1-4C alkyl, (opt. substd. by 1-3 gps. selected from lower alkyl, halogen, lower alkoxy, NO2 and aryl), 2-9C alkoxymethyl, aryloxymethyl or 2-9C alkylaminomethyl, or adjacent R1-R4 gps. can form a (CH2)n chain, where n = 3 or 4). Cpds. (I) are esp. active against phytopathogenic fungi ne.g. Alternaria, Pythium and Rhizocotonia), viruses (esp. mosaic and ringspot viruses) and bacteria (e.g. Xanthomonas phseoli, Erwinia amylovora, Pseud. aeruginosa, E. coli and Staph. aureus). They are esp. useful as agricultural pesticides and seed dressings, but can also be used as industrial microbicides.</p> |
