PURPOSE:To prepare ethylene polymer whose molecular weight can be controlled by hydrogen, by polymerizing ethylene in the sresence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (A) a solid obtained by calcining a Cr compound, e.g. chromium trioxide or acethylacetonatochromium, and an organosilicon compound of the formula Rl Sixm (R is H or 1-10C hydrocarbon group; X is halogen, or hydroxyl group; l and m are integers >=0, and l+m=4), supported on an inorganic oxide, at 300-1100 deg.C for several minutes to several tens of hours, and (B) a trialkylaluminum or alkyl aluminum halide in an inert solvent at normal temperature to 200 deg.C and normal pressure to 100 atm. EFFECT:Ethylene polymer having improved color, heat, and oxidation stabilities can be obtained without requiring a deashing step. |
