PURPOSE:To perform genuiness judgement of banknotes surely with a simple constitution by disposing position detecting means in an adequate position for banknote pattern detecting means by the quantity of transmission light. CONSTITUTION:Short banknotes such as two-fold notes, etc. are discriminated by the position detecting means S1 and S2, S3 disposed in the specified positions for the sensors H1 thru H4 which detect the quantity of transmission light. In addition, a jam-detecting timer 7 is set via AND gates 5, 6. Next, when the quantity of light transmitting through the banknote is detected by the sensors H1 thru H4, the genuineness by the banknote pattern through comparison of the detection output of a multiplexer 14, control circuit 8, etc. and the pattern voltage stored in a memory is judged. At the time of this judgement, the length of the banknote is also simultareously detected by the position detector S5 disposed in the specified position with respect to the sensors H1 thru H4 like the detector S3. Hence, the judgement of the banknotes is surely accomplished from the pattern and length with the simple constitution using the position detectors disposed in the adequate positions not in density with respect to the sensors H1 thru H4. |
