New disulphide cpds. of carriers having S-S exchange reactivity are cpds. of the formula R-S-S-X1-X2-A (I) in which R is a 2-benzothiazolyl group or 2-pyridyl N-oxide group; X1 is a separating group; X2 is a linking group; and A is the bound residue of the carrier. - (I) react with thiol cpds. to give immobilized thiol cpds. When the thiol cpd. is an enzyme, the product is an immobilized enzyme. When the thiol cpd. is a hapten, antigen or antibody, the product is an immobilized immune component useful in affinity chromatography. (I) can also be reacted with agents which split S-S bonds (e.g. dithiothreitol) at pH 9-11 to give an SH-contg. carrier of the formula HS-X1-X2-A. |
