The installation removes air pollutants from a work station and comprises a primary fan (3) located in a horizontal duct (4) just above the work table (1). This draws in dust and fumes (5) and passes them into an externally mounted filter (7), the cleaned air being exhausted to atmosphere (8). A second fan (9) is mounted in a vertical duct (10) with a lower opening (11) above the first duct and an upper opening (12). Unpolluted air is drawn in and recirculated, in a closed loop (C), over the work table. This creates an air curtain (D) to protect the operator.
