The cable retainer is for use on a ski lift. A floating pulley (2) works with a fork (18), the upper arm (18a) of which is fixed to the support (7). The lower arm (18b) is placed below the pulley with room for the cable and buckle (3) in case it falls below the level of the pulley (2). A ring (26) has the same or slightly less dia. as the floating pulley.
