The pecto-ligno-cellulosic materials of vegetable origin are treated in solid medium with the aid of exothermic biochemical reactions using aerobic or anaerobic microorganisms. The materials are seeded with >=1 inoculum of a specific strain of microorganisms and introduced into a fermenter. The fermentation is controlled by circulating air through the materials at a rate such that the temp. in the middle of the material is maintained at the optimum growth rate temp. of the specific strain. The process is carried out in an appts. comprising a fermentation chamber fed with air by a distribution appts. which feeds the air at different levels. The process is applied to leaves, plants, forest prods. esp. wood. The agglomerated prod. can be used to make panels, moulded elements, papers, cargons, agro-food prods., and combustible briquettes. The process enables the fermentation time to be reduced to a min.
|
