The indirectly heated steam generator is of the type with tubular heating elements inside a pressure vessel containing the steam /water mixture. The elements (6) run from one tube plate (8) near the vessel top through a cylindrical sleeve (6) coaxial with the vessel another (10) closing the sleeve bottom end. Just above this is the feedwater inlet (14) into a length of sleeve projecting below the vessel. The latter forms a narrow collar (3) around the sleeve before opening out, below the waterline (170) which is below the sleeve top end. Holes (12) just above the vessel-to-sleeve joint (4) permit internal water circulation.
