Earth-filled crib wall - consists of precast beams in alternate courses defining rectangular cages with trough-section facia beams for planting grass

The crib wall is earthed filled and used in forming noise insulating barriers alongside major highways. Alternate courses are formed by transverse and longitudinal beams respectively, the primaries (1) locating at equal longitudinal intervals and forming the base course on a foundation of concrete (15) or sand. Two longitudinal beams (2) aligning on the respective wall faces, being set back alternately in the longitudinal sense to overlap in elevation and gain full width bearing seats. The outermost beams (3) have a trough section with the external wall (13) at 45 deg. to the base providing battered herbaceous earth terraces.
