An appts. measuring the ionisation of a gaseous medium partic. the atmos., or iometer, consists of three concentric tubes and a pump. The outer tube is connected to earth and forms a protection. The intermediate tube is brought to a polarisation potential. The inner, measuring, tube is connected to an electrometer. The pump draws the gaseous medium into the annular space between the intermediate and inner tubes at a controlled rate. The measuring tube is joined to two insulators extending its ends axially. The rear insulator is screwed into a rear tube-holding piece engaged in the outer tube. The front insulator has a conical front bearing engaged in a complementing conical seating of an axial inlet tube, also concentric with the protection tube and fixed to a front tube-carrying piece. The appts. is an improvement on that described in the parent patent in that it simplifies the operations of dismantling and cleaning and of reassembling the measuring tube. Contamination with dust takes place more slowly reducing the frequency of dismantling and increaseing the reliability.
