<p>A sports sock has a wide ribbed welt which contains elastic yarns laid into the ribbing. They confer a transverse elasticity to the whole of the ribbed zone, which extends from the top of the calf to the base of the thigh. The elastic yarns are laid in straight in the direction of the rows of knitting, and across the wales at intervals of e.g. every two rows. The sports sock, to be worn over the knee, is intended for use during e.g. skiing or climbing, with short trousers or breeches which extend beyond the knee, but leave exposed the calf and the lower leg.</p> |
