Flywheel drive for power press - has slipping clutch to permit continuous rotation during press return stroke of flywheel

A power press is driven by a screwed rod (7) which engages the thread of a wedge (5). The wedge (5) is fitted in the head (4) of the press (1) and pushes the ram (2) downwards. The screwed rod (7) is driven from one end by an electric motor (14) fitted with a brake (13). The lower end of the rod (7) is fitted with a flywheel (10) driven through a slipping clutch (11) by an electric motor (12). During the power stroke both motors (12) (14) drive the screwed rod. On the return stroke rotation of the upper motor is reversed whilst the slipping clutch (11) allows the flywheel (11) to continue rotating in the same direction.
