The road surface cutting machine has a working platform held by a standard saddle tractor, bearing both the cutter roller and a control position for the various cutter operations. A setting device for direction of travel, can be mechanically coupled to the steering wheel(28) of the tractor(10), operated from the control position(16). This can incorporate a friction wheel pressing against the steering wheel periphery, and driven by a relay-controlled direct-current motor, if necessary with reduction gear, or by compressed-oil driven motor. This system enables cutting to be operated single-handed.
