The vacuum cleaner suction nozzle has a plate with at least one suction channel. At least one side (10) of this channel runs past the suction opening at a distance from it and in the region of this opening is inclined at an acute angle towards the opening forming a sloping surface. This flank(19) reduces the suction by about 20% so that long pile carpets etc. can be cleaned more easily with minimum effort since the mouthpiece plate does not sink too deeply into the pile.
