<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the rise in the supercharging pressure and protect an internal combustion engine from damage, by providing a stop valve in a return passage to decrease supercharged air to the engine when an exhaust bypass valve is defective. CONSTITUTION:An upstream exhaust passage 11 and a lower downstream exhaust passage 12 are connected to each other through a bypass 14. The bypass valve 13 is controlled by the pressure of supercharged air at the upstream side of a throttle valve 5 provided near the outlet end of a downstream intake passage 4. An upstream intake passage 1 is connected to the part of the downstream intake passage 4 at the upstream side of the throttle valve through the return passage 18. When the pressure of supercharged air in the return passage 18, which is the control pressure for the exhaust bypass valve, has exceeded a set level, a one-way valve 19 is opened by the pressure to return the supercharged air to the upstream intake passage 1. Excessive supercharging is thus prevented.</p> |
