摘要 The heat-resistant cable comprises continuous glass filaments which, in the form of rovings (2) are helically wound one on top of the other at a constant helix angle (x) from the cable centre point to the outer surface and are bonded to one another in an elastomeric material. Upon heating, the thermal elongation of the filaments is counteracted by the simultaneous radially directed volumetric thermal expansion of the elastomeric material. As far as the overall length of the cable is concerned, the thermal elongation of the cable is opposed by the simultaneous increase in the cross-sectional area of the cable, so that the thermal elongation effects can be influenced, taking into consideration the thermal expansion characteristics of the reinforcing and elastomeric materials used, by controlling the helix angle (x) at which the filaments are wound one on top of the other such that, as desired, either expanding cables, contracting cables or cables of constant length are obtained. The thermal contraction effects induced upon cooling of the cable can likewise be influenced by controlling the helix angle. In the case of some applications, where the cable is subjected to high tensile loads, the helix angle (x) may be additionally brought into a relationship with the tensile load, with consideration of the modulus of elasticity of the filaments used. <IMAGE>
