PURPOSE:To produce useful NH3 from N2O in an industrially advantageous manner by reacting N2O and H2 in the presence of Ni and/ or Co catalyst supported on zeolite. CONSTITUTION:Zeolite, esp. synthetic zeolite is impregnated with an aq. soln. of a Ni salt such as nickel nitrate and/or a Co salt such as cobalt nitrate, followed by washing, drying and calcination. In the presence of the resulting cotalyst of Ni and/or Co supported on zeolite, N2O and H2 are reacted at 200-900, pref. about 400-800 deg.C under ordinary press.-about 100 atm, usually ordinary press.-about 10 atm to produce NH3. The N2O used is pure and may be diluted with an inert gas such as N2 or Ar. The molar ratio of H2 to N2O is 0.1-100, pref. about 4-20. |
