PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oral dosage form having reasonable characteristics that provide for sufficient absorption of the active ingredient.SOLUTION: An oral dosage form, which is effective in providing therapeutically effective blood levels of a therapeutically active ingredient to a subject when administered to a gastrointestinal tract, comprises: (i) a therapeutically effective amount of a therapeutically active ingredient; (ii) at least one water soluble enhancer, e.g. a medium chain fatty acid or a salt, ester, or ether of a medium chain fatty acid, which has a carbon chain length of from about 8 to 14 carbon atoms; and (iii) a saccharide, e.g. sugar alcohols, monosaccharides, di-saccharides and oligosaccharides, wherein the weight ratio of the enhancer to saccharide is 4:1 to 6:1. The oral dosage form provides rapid release of the active ingredient and the enhancer after the pharmaceutical composition enters the intestine of a subject; and, in the form of a dosage form without coating, provides an in vitro dissolution of at least 80% of the therapeutically active ingredient and the enhancer in 20 minutes, preferably in 18 minutes.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
