NEW MATERIAL:SU-1 and its acid addition salt, SU-1 has the following physicochemical properties. Basic white powder; elemental analysis (%): C 49.60, H 8.79, N 11.52: molecular weight: 464; molecular formula: C20H40N4O8; color reaction: positive to ninhydrin and potassium permanganate reactions, and negative to Elson- Morgan and biuret reactions; etc. USE:Antibiotic. Active even against bacteria of Proteus genus and Pseudomonas genus to which there are few active antibiotics so far. PROCESS:An SU-1-producing fungus belonging to Micromonospora genus, e.g. Micromonospora sagamiencis SU-2 (FERM-P No. 4230), is cultured in a nutrient medium, to collect SU-1 from a cultured substance. |
