<p>1511331 Feeding webs through packaging machine W A BODOLAY 23 April 1975 [15 May 1974] 16845/75 Headings B8C and B8R [Also in Division B5] A packaging machine which forms containers 19 from a web 14 has belts 44 to move the web, the belts engaging the web on the side thereof which will form the interior of the containers. The web is folded longitudinally by being passed over elements 34. Rollers 64 press the top edges of the web against the belts 44 which carry fingers (58) which are forced outwardly through the web, the rollers carrying bristles which are penetrated by the fingers. The web is transversely heat sealed and severed, by a head 68 comprising an element 80 pivoted by a fluid cylinder against a sealing base 88. At the filling station 130 there are grab arms (131, 132) which pull the belts 46 and the sides of the web 14 apart and upstream and downstream clamping rollers. Slack in the belts to permit this movement of the belts is produced by assemblies 52 which each include a roller (54) reciprocated by a cylinder 56. A head 70 heat seals and severs the top of each filled container. Both heads 68 and 70 are adjustably mounted along rails 74, 101. The belts 44 are driven by drive rollers 105 rotated through a one-way clutch by a rack 112 which carries members (114) which actuate drive controlling switches (118, 120).</p> |
