4-Methyl-1-pentene prepn. by propylene dimerisation - using catalyst contg. potassium, copper and aliphatic tert. amine

4-Me-1-pentene (I) is prepd. by dimerising propylene in the presence of a catalyst contg. (A) K, (b) Cu and (c) an aliphatic tert amine, pref. in an inert gas atmos. at 150-200 degrees C in absence of O2 and water. Reaction velocity of C3H6 is increased and selectivity for (I) is improved, e. g. to 90% even when C3H6 conversion is >50% and in some cases 75%.
