The container which is to be filled is lifted upwards so that its neck is sealed against the seal below the valve. An axle is turned clockwise by a lever and a pin raises the gas flap allowing gas the flow through the pipe into the container. At this moment of pressure equalisation the liquid flap is opened by a spring and the charging of the container begins. The filling process is ended when the level of the liquid in the container reaches the opening. Then there is no possibility of remaining gas escaping and the entry of fresh liquid is prevented. By turning the axle anticlockwise the flaps for both air and liquid are closed.
