The coupling utilises a sliding sleeve (5) with a stepped bore acting in association with a step-tapered spigot end. The hose end is compressed between the bore (5e) of the sleeve and the barrel (1c) of the spigot. A radial shoulder may divide the bore of the sleeve into two lengths of different dias., the dia. of the leading length (5e) equalling the external dia. of the hose, and that of the trailing length (5d) being nominally less. The spigot may have a truncated conical head (1a) of which the larger dia. is bounded by a radial step (1b), the thus formed arrisse being pressed into the hose by the sleeve. A chamfered mouth (5f) may be provided on the trailing sleeve end in addn. to a reinforcing flange (5c), the wall thickness (5a) at the leading end being further reduced by a barrel step.
