PURPOSE:To produce a fiber with a lens of a simple and arbitrary shape by placing a glass ball or plastic ball through self-alignment on the core part of the end face of the optical fiber and fusing or bonding the same to the fiber end part thereby forming the lens. CONSTITUTION:The end part 1' of a glass fiber 1 is etched with an etching solution such as of hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid, etc. to recess the core part 3. A glass ball or plastic ball 4 of a necessary size is placed in this recess 3' and is set in the core center through self-alignment, after which the fiber end part 1' is heated to melt by carbonic acid gas laser, discharging, plasma torch such as oxyhydrogen flame, etc., whereby the glass ball 4 and the end part 1' of the fiber 1 are secured. |
