<p>The cupola and has a fore-hearth is permanently connected to the cupola and has a taphole at its bottom. The fore-hear the can be sealed, and is provided with an injection device and a, gas pipe which is connected to the cupola aboe the maximum slag level. The improvements are: (a) for automatic peiodic tapping of the slag, the cupola, hearth has a syphon and an external weir; and (b) the fore-hearth is connected to the cupola hearth, for tapping of the melt, by a syphon which extends from a cupola opening, which is below the opening for the slag syphon, to a fore-hearth opening which is below the slag weir. The desing ensures tht slag cannot enter the fore-hearth, that the melt level is constant in the cupola hearth, the slag syphon and the molten metal syphon and that the slag level is constant in the cupola hearth and the slag syphon.</p> |
