<p>Pharmacologically-active ichthyological fraction is prepd. by hydrolysis of ichthyological materials by (a) hydrolyis of the ichthyological material, in basic medium, at 30-75 degrees C, for at least 4 hrs.; (b) sepn. of the oils and hydrolysis residues and neutralisation of the obtained aq. phase (c) sepn. of the formed solid and treatment to give the desired active fraction; (d) removal of the aq. phase after neutralisation. Hydrolysis is effected with an alkaline hydroxide in aq. solution at 60-80 degrees C for >=2 hrs. pref. at pH 12-13 until are particles of fish flesh have disappeared. Neutralisation is effected with a strong acid, pref. introduced at the bottom of the vat and the flocculated solid is recovered from the surface of the liquid, dried and powdered. A suitable starting material is whole fish or fish viscera and fish heads. Treatment of insufficiency in sexual activity of males by oral administration of unit doses of 100-1000 mg. 1-10 times daily.</p> |
