PURPOSE:To prevent an erroneous write from taking place by running a tape in the forward direction after the backward run of a preset distance and by starting the write after confirmation of erasure by the erasure and read-out. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic tape MT, which is halted through a start mark while facing read, write and erase heads R, W and E at positions a, b and c, is run backward a preset distance by which the position a passes through the head E. Then, the tape MT is run forward, while effecting the erasure with the head E, so that the write by the head W is started from the point where the position b of the tape MT comes to face the head W. Then, the propriety of the operating conditions of the head E is confirmed through the head R at a position between the tape positions a and b. As a result, it is possible to prevent the erroneous write due to improper erasure from taking place. |
