The switch is desinged to handle heavy currents and a nozzle-shaped arcing electrode inside which the arc enters during the opening process. The arcing electrode is a ring with a U-shaped cross-section forming an annular slot in which a ferromagnetic element is placed. The ferromagnetic element (13) fills only a part of the slot (11) circumference. The gas rushing into the open bores of the electrode and carrying the arc is induced to perform a swirling motion.
