Warm-up circuit for high-pressure gas discharge lamp - speeds warm-up by using extra series impedance to increase current during warm-up period

The warm-up circuit has an extra impedance connected to the input side of the lamp to increase the current during warm-up. A point on the lamp start-up characteristics is preselected at which an electrical or electronic switch disconnects the extra impedance and switches on a fan. The preselected point lies below the rated voltage of the lamp. A second switching device is connected in parallel with the lamp and is used to set the switch point. The fan drive motor is connected in parallel with the lamp. The motor starts when the rated voltage is reached.
