The vacuum cleaner suction pipe is formed from telescopically sliding parts (1, 2) of different diameters. A helical spring (9) is coupled to the two parts to slide them telescopically. The inner and outer tube parts each have holes (6, 7) offset relative to each other when the spring is relaxed. They can be sealed by a sealing lip (5) which can likewise be displaced in the longitudinal direction. The telescopic parts only slide into each other in dependence on the sliding force so that the supply of extra air only takes place when a correspondingly high sliding force is used.
