Acoustic signals (A) with fixed frequency and duration are sent into the atmosphere, and the scattered signal returning from the atmosphere is received. The frequency spectrum and th wind velocity are calculated from its comparison with the sent out signal and the Doppler frequency shift. The received signal is split by filtering in a series of evaluation functions allocated to individual frequency ranges. A maximum amplitude function is selected from the evaluation functions of a propagation time interval. A frequency allocated to it is used for the Doppler difference formation.
